Steam in Industry – 2017!

Steam in Industry - 2017!

On just the second occasion in the history of the present bitumen supply chain based at Preston, industrial steam traction was used to move the loaded tanks from the so-named Port of Preston Authority’s Strand Road reception sidings to the Total bitumen terminal Riversway siding alongside the Ribble Steam Railway depot. With the loaded bitumen tanks, having arrived from the Lindsay Refinery behind Colas Rail Freight 60095, William Bagnall 0-6-0 saddle tank ‘Courageous’ (woirks no.2680 built in 1942) gets to grips on the damp rails with it 700-tonne trailing load bound for the discharge point on Monday 3rd July 2017.

With thanks to the Ribble Steam Railway for granting permission to access the exchange sidings by prior arrangement.
